In this garden ruin we eat bread of sweat
Our children born in pain, still we forget
So you looked upon our need and issued the call
You sent the best you had?but we killed them all
We trampled heaven?s pearls beneath our feet like it just didn?t matter
Still the angels ascend and descend
Climbing?climbing?climbing Jacob?s ladder

And so you sent your Son to this world of His
And in another garden He?s betrayed with a kiss
Our sentence carried out we washed our hands like it just didn?t matter
The lightning flashed, the mountain shook ?neath the weight of Jacobs ladder

And in the streets we went our separate way
And still you sent your invitation
And still we walked on by

The garden tomb was empty?save for the shroud
Someday He will return riding the clouds
Someday the sky will fall and we?ll shake our fist in the face of disaster
By the light of the blood-red moon the angels will disappear up Jacob?s ladder
