Album: CHH Ain't Dead, Vol. 1
Interlude: Michael Peace
In 1985, I put in one of my lyrics
Uh, "J-E-S-U-S", I said: "Pretty soon they'll be saying that
'Your rapping don't please us', 'cause born-again Christians gon' be rapping about Jesus'
And, when I did that, I wanted to put everybody on notice who would hear the lyrics
Coming from a Christian, that, we were serious about what we were doing with the genre of hip-hop
That, we were not going to be arrogant, but, we were going to be confident
And we were going to be relentless to do two things, and all of us
Back in those days, all of us, back in those days, in the '80s
We had two goals in mind: the first one was to glorify the Lord with our lyrics
That it will be undeniable as to who we were rapping- representing and rapping about
No- no metaphors, no pronouns
It was straight and direct Jesus, and the second thing was that we wanted to reach the lost
We wanted to declare the good news of Jesus Christ, the Gospel of Jesus Christ
To people who knew nothing about Jesus, who had a limited understanding about Jesus
Or what it really meant to be a Christian, and that was what we were doing, that was what we did
And little did we know that, so many years later
That there would be so many amazing rappers that love the Lord Jesus Christ and reflected what He's all about
Back in the day, we had no idea that it would have come to what it's come to
We sure are glad about that very thing:
That people are glorifying the Lord big time with the good news of Jesus Christ
