Album: It's For You

(I'm gonna do one of my requests.)

I am a troubled man; trouble is what I am,
I am a troubled man, and I'll take all you can give me,
I walk alone,
Hand in hand with my trouble, but still nobody's home.

I'm in the poorhouse forever,
I'm in the doghouse forever and ever, with...

I am a simple man; simple is what I am,
I am quite simply mad, and not particularly glad to be,
You were a simple friend,
I complicated you, then I lost that simple friend; all complications unending,
I think alone,
I could use some good help with my thinking - it's too far from home.

I could think of you forever,
I could think of us together, but never mind.

I am a lonely man; lonely is what I am,
Heart broke and lonely, I think of you only,
Are you with me?
I wasn't ever that smart,
No, and I wasn't clever to think that I had a hold of your heart.

I can break your heart forever,
I could break mine and yours both right in two, after you.

I won't go gently into that bad earth,
I would fight for you with all that is within me, and for all that it's worth.

Can I run to you forever?
'Cause if I can't run to you forever, how can I run to you now?

You live on my doorstep; is there room in my house?

(Thanks a lot.)

(Those are a bunch of...these are all contradictory. "The Treasure In You" - tender love ballad about my daughter, "I Could Laugh" - a long, bluesy rant. There was some...there was another one in there "God Sends Quails" - it's uncategorizable. That's in an alternate tuning, I think we would probably break another string if we did that, but that's a great tune though. I could do "Satellite Of Love". No, I won't do that, it's alright. You're gonna get it, man. "Audrey" - jeeze, that's a good...that's an interesting one. "Love Without Dreams" - jeeze. I have not played that song since the day I recorded it. it's ten years ago. You know where liars go. Don't tempt me; I'll do that number. You wanna hear that, huh? Okay, this is the song that we were forced to put on this album, because the record company told us the record wasn't Christian enough. So we said, "Okay, you want a gospel tune? Here it comes." Complete with video. I don't know if I remember the words. Dave, who...somebody's been type...kyping my supplies. Did you take my lyrics? (Well, I did stumble when I saw the little expletive in the middle.) Here it is, except that only munchkins can read this. I can barely see it. (If you'd have sent in $2 we'd have sent you the larger size.) He's got a point.)
