Chains Are For Breaking
by The Protest

Album: Chains Are For Breaking - Single

Verse 1
I see you waiting like you're scared prey for the hunters to come
You think there's no way you're escaping this one (Quit hiding)
You're not a chalk outline
This is a challenge to face your fears that hold your heart for ransom
Enough's enough, shake off the dust, counteract what holds you back

Chorus
So come on, show me what you got
Do you want to live or not?
Fate's what you make it
So go make it
(Oh) Get up off the floor
Is death what you're living for?
Chains are for breaking
So go and break them

Verse 2
I see you shake behind your cell door, while you're holding the key
Planning your funeral, but the casket is empty
Start crawling out of your cage
This is a challenge to face your fears that hold your heart for ransom
Enough's enough, shake off the dust

Chorus
So come on, show me what you got
Do you want to live or not?
Fate's what you make it
So go make it
(Oh) Get up off the floor
Is death what you're living for?
Chains are for breaking
So go and break them

Bridge
Do not fear
You have a spirit of power and love
It burns in your blood
Do not fear
You have a spirit of power and love
It burns in your blood

From Josh Bramlett:

“Fear can be all-consuming. It can affect the way you live, the way you think about yourself, and your decisions. If you're a human being you've likely experienced that dread. That anxiety. I know that I've lived a majority of my life being controlled by it. All too often we live our lives like we're bracing for impact. We imprison ourselves, but have the key the whole time. It's like we get stuck in a bear trap and just wait for the hunter to come. We might even have a way out, but are frozen by fear. It can be easy to roll over and accept a grisly fate. There is hope however, we all can find strength to persevere! For the guys and I that strength comes from our faith in Jesus. We believe that He is hope, and sometimes that's all we have to hold on to."

This song came out of nowhere for us. Most of the writing that we have done for this record (and yes, this is one small piece of an eventual full length. The record is getting closer to being finished every day:) has been done in-house. In this case, however, our dear friend Matt Baird sent us a song idea that he had worked on with some of our other dear friends (Josiah Prince, Andrew Stanton, and John Panzer III). After hearing the demo we knew this song was meant for us. So we took it to the studio and made it our own.

We hope that the listener feels encouraged, empowered, and uplifted after spinning this track. That they know they aren't alone and that they have not been given a spirit of fear, but of power and love. Additionally, we would love it if this tune helps you get that last rep in the gym, or puts a little lead in your foot while driving!”
