The Axe & The Sax
by Jim Bailey

Album: Do You Wanna Be In God's Gang?

Goliath was a soul man, listened to it all the time
To other forms of music he was just a Philistine
He had a go at Israel for their love of rock & roll
If they thought he was out of tune they should
come & tell him so

Goliath was a soul man played a screaming saxophone
Giving Israel the blues down the microphone
Well Israel rick & rolls dead, as dead as it can be
And if you think I'm out of key then come & jam with me

You may say that soul is king of the road
that rock & roll is through
But I'll jam with you, till its proved true
and I'll rock the block off you

The only sound that could be heard was Israels
Knocking knees
So to this percussive sound Goliath made his tease
" are you mice or musicians" he tauntingly said
When from the back david picked up his axe
And went to get ahead

King Saul the main muso
saw Dave with his battered Strat(ocaster)
He cried " oh no you can't go with a capo & that
Take a nice new expensive guitar,
the best money can afford
David said "no", I'll just go with
the anointing of the Lord

Dave & big G began to jam & things they soon grew hot
as riff by riff & groove each gave all they'd got
Goliath blew the meanest blow that took all off his breath
and David prayed before he played Lord help me do my best

David hit the fret board & a wild distorted sound
echoed through the airwaves smashing everything around
Goliath stood in horror frozen by surprise
As a power chord like a rolling stone hit him right between the eyes

As he hit the carpet, as he bit the dust
The Israelites went crazy the Philistines went whoosh
The whole word knows the story
the faith of Davids told
And God's still in the business of using rock & roll
