A Fear I Used To Know
by Demon Hunter

Album: Outlive - Deluxe

There was a time I had control
No chains around me
And inside I felt the calling, the pull
Too many times I gave my soul to faltering hands
To shadows that would take me, break me down

God only knows how I cope with the pain
Of holding my hands to the flame
And nobody knows if the feeling will stay
But you won't forget my name

There's a fear I used to know
Fear of loss in letting go
Now my blood is running cold
There's a fear I used to know
Fear that hollowed out my soul
The weight has taken toll

You drew a crown around my word
Left fate to drown me
And I thought I could dismantle, disarm
No matter how I cut my ties, I fracture inside
Compulsion will define me, grind me down

God only knows how I cope with the pain
Of holding my hands to the flame
And nobody knows if the feeling will stay
But you won't forget my name

There's a fear I used to know
Fear of loss and letting go
Now my blood is running cold
There's a fear I used to know
Fear that hollowed out my soul
The weight has taken toll

Let me catch my breath
Follow the path given to me
Must be something left
Under the wreck
Calling, pulling
Down

There's a fear I used to know
Fear of loss and letting go
Now my blood is running cold
There's a fear I used to know
Fear that hollowed out my soul
The weight has taken toll

There's a fear I used to know
Fear of loss and letting go
Now my blood is running cold
There's a fear I used to know
Fear that hollowed out my soul
The weight has taken toll

"I have obsessed about the perceived legitimacy of Demon Hunter since day one. There were times when playing live shows seemed like a necessity to validate us as a 'real thing'. I've lived with a sense of fear that we might not be seen in the same light as other, more active bands. As I get older and priorities begin to shift dramatically, I can feel these fears dissipate.

There will always be a part of me that is concerned with the band's perception in this regard, but it's no longer a focus. Not only have I found a sense of comfort in whatever the future holds for Demon Hunter, but when I look back, I'm amazed and humbled by what an incredible journey it's been.

This was the first song I wrote for Outlive."
